Hitting One Year Of Blogging – 12 Facts You Didn’t Know About Me

For the past year I have discovered so many things on my blogging journey and it has opened up Pandora’s box to find out who I am? Cheesy, I know.

So I thought it would be fun to lay out 12 facts about me you probably didn’t know and hope you can get to know me a bit better.

1. I Love Marine Animals: A lot of people who are close to me know this fact. I have been obsessed with Shamu (Sea World) and Lolita (Miami Seaquarium) from the tender age of five. My family would take me to see them every year and as my 18th birthday present I got to swim with the dolphins for the very first time. I wanted to be a marine biologist since I could remember and changed my views on captivity so many times. Amo a los animales marinos: muchas personas que están cerca de mí conocen este hecho. He estado obsesionado con Shamu (Sea World) y Lolita (Miami Seaquarium) desde la tierna edad de cinco años. 2. Twins Do Run In My Family: Although twins do run in my family, the last member to have twins were my tatarabuela (great-great-grandmother) and my mom’s cousin. Los gemelos se corren en mi familia: aunque los mellizos corren en mi familia, el último miembro que tuvo mellizos fue mi tatarabuela y el primo de mi madre.
3. I Changed My Undergrad Degree Three Times Before Deciding Business: It seems this is more common than not but my first degree plan was Marine Biology (which is what my AA is in), then I switched to teaching, dabbled in writing, and then settled for Business Management. Cambié mi título de pregrado tres veces antes de decidirme a hacer negocios: parece que esto es más común que no, pero mi plan de primer grado era biología marina (que es en lo que está mi AA), luego cambié a la docencia, incursioné por escrito y luego me instalé para la gestión empresarial.
4. I Was In The Navy: I was in the Navy for four years, which is where I met my husband (aboard the USS BATAAN) as well as so many lifelong friends who helped me get through pretty dark times. Estuve en la Marina: estuve en la Marina durante cuatro años, y allí conocí a mi esposo (a bordo del USS BATAAN) y a tantos amigos de toda la vida que me ayudaron a superar tiempos muy oscuros.
5. Pasta Is My Favorite Food: I’ve always loved pasta. When I would babysit as a teen, most of my payment came from the parents bringing me some Fettuccine Alfredo and a Caesar salad. 6. I’m an Amateur Cook: But I am learning SO much about cooking and have truly developed admiration for cooking. My husband cooked for us for the last six years since I got home late from work so now that I am a SAHM (stay-at-home-mom), well, there’s no excuse that I shouldn’t have dinner ready by the time my husband comes home. Soy una cocinera aficionado: pero estoy aprendiendo mucho sobre cocina y realmente he desarrollado admiración por la cocina. 7. I Fell to Love Ford Cars: My father LOVES Fords. All of my cars were Fords, minus my first one, which was my abuela’s and handed over to me (1992 Toyota Corolla). Me enamoré de los autos Ford: mi padre AMA a Ford. 8. Not a Big Fan of Pink: My favorite colors are purple and turquoise and I have NEVER been a fan of any shade of pink. Since having a daughter, I have learned to just ‘let it go’ because Sofia LOVES pink. No soy fanática del color rosa: Mis colores favoritos son el morado y el turquesa, y NUNCA he sido fan de ningún tono de rosa. 9. I Get Stressed Out Easily: Little things tick me off like dishes not done or not cleaning my house. Of course since having kids, I have also learned to let it go because they are in the stage where they come right behind me and tear up whatever I’ve cleaned up. Me estreso fácilmente: pequeñas cosas me marcan como platos no hechos o no limpiar mi casa. 10. I Had a Brief Stint with Blonde Hair: I was pretty much a rebel my sophomore year in high school and dyed my hairblonde the entire year. That was the only year my hair was blonde. ever. Tuve un breve toque de pelo rubio:era casi un rebelde en mi segundo año en la escuela secundaria y me tiñé el pelo rubio todo el año. Ese fue el único año en que mi cabello era rubio. 
11. I Have Always Been Surrounded By Supportive Women: It’s true. My mother came from Cuba in the 70’s and had to leave her father behind. Since then, my abuela, mother, aunt, bisabuela have played substantial roles in the woman I have become. Siempre me han rodeado las mujeres solidarias: es cierto. Mi madre vino de Cuba en los años 70 y tuvo que dejar a su padre atrás. Desde entonces, mi abuela, mi madre, mi tía y mi bisabuela han desempeñado un papel importante en la mujer en la que me he convertido. 

    

    This picture was taken at my first birthday in 1988. These women (& my tio) have been pillars of strength to ensure I am the woman I am today.

12. I Am a Tattoo Fiend: Okay, maybe not a fiend but I do have ten tattoos. My first tattoo was when I came home from my first deployment (I was 18) and my sister and I decided to get the same tattoo on our foot. It was of shooting stars. I was so scared of the pain that mine has less color in it because I had him stop. Soy un demonio del tatuaje: De acuerdo, tal vez no sea un demonio, pero sí tengo diez tatuajes. Mi primer tatuaje fue cuando llegué a casa desde mi primer despliegue (tenía 18 años) y mi hermana y yo decidimos hacernos el mismo tatuaje en el pie. Era de estrellas fugaces. Estaba tan asustado del dolor que el mío tiene menos color porque lo detuve.
